Rubber molding on trunk support (made from black Ignition wire), top of firewall filled with sheet plastic, floors of front and rear seat cut out,

Modifications to resin model:
Removed 11 scale inches (11 m.m.) from fenders & hood (to bring body back to stock length), hole in hood was also cut 11 m.m. forward,
removed all side window trim, removed rear window trim & emblem, cut hole in trunk to recess parachute,
removed some hood supports from the back of hood, steering column (was cut off, re-located and puttied to be part of the dash).

Scratch built added features:
Filled grill centers with putty, added new side window backing, front tube suspension, headers (made from solder),
clear plastic windhield, blue tinted side windows, rear window, backed up parchute hole for parachute mount, fuel linkage,
drive shaft (alum. tube), right side interior X shaped door bracing, left side interior door paneling, added front shock towers to front frame clip,
plasic strip was added around top of rear interior tub gap (because I'll be using blue plastic sheet instead of kit glass), roll bars,
U-shaped brackets and plate on rear springs, riser brackets for rear springs, rear shock mounts, riser brackets for front springs,
steering rod, steering linkage, 40- MENG Nut & Bolt Heads on all front & rear suspension parts, shifter boot (made using Milliput Putty),
shifter (made from white head stick pins).

Fins on the Barracuda fish were hand painted in light blue as the Slixx decal was red.

Modifications to resin model:
Removed right side door handle, hollowed out some of the interior door panels
,
removed drip rails, re-installed new drip rails using .010 x .020" strip, cut hole in licence plate area,
installed vinyl top rails on roof, altered the motor mount, added .030" sheet to the bottom of the front valance,
Removed 5 scale inches from fenders and hood because the article that I mastered the original master model was wrong!

Unfortunately, I was misinformed about the quote from Dick Harrell in the article from American Rodding March 1968;
"We moved the rear wheels forward eight inches, extended the front end ten inches and are now sitting on a one hundred and fifteen-inch wheelbase"
is incorrect !
I went back to review all the measurements and found out that after doing the wheelbase alterations (according to the article);
The wheelbase would not be 115", it would be 110". And, if I also include the 3" front wheel moved forward, the wheel base would be 113" !
To make the body correct; 5 scale inches (5 m.m.) was removed from the fender panels and hood (see photos below).

shifter, parachute pull & fuel shut off handles were made from (black head stick pins), transmission mount,
parachute cable & strap, glass made from clear sheet plastic, side window support strips, fuel tank mid-section,
fuel lines, linkage, water lines, large chin spoiler, headers (made from solder), hubs on rear mag wheels, gas pedal base,
steering wheel support,
12- MENG Nut & Bolt Heads on all front & rear suspension parts, hood pins,
used craft wire for coils on front shocks, wheelie bar brace, support rods on front clip.

Donor parts:
Parts box- Steering wheel, rear shocks, rear torsion bars, belt driven fuel pump
, battery, oil tube & cap.
Pro-Tech- Distributor, black plug wires, misc. bolt heads.

Body: Lip around inside of interior walls and front wheel wells using .010 x .020., support rods for hood & top of fenders,
structural supports by doors & tailgate, cut outs on wheel wells for front shocks, grill hollowed out, lip on grill for hood rest,
hood braces, 4- .020" bolt heads around sides of grill, 6- bolt heads behind front fenders, 10- bolt heads around bottom of hood.
Altered Driver Figure's boots (to resemble ARMY boots).

Modifications to resin Frame:
Front of frame rails were cut off and new .080 X .156" sq. tube was added. 2 frame rails for fuel tank, motor mounts raised higher,
rear frame rails were cut off and new rails were installed, pins for rear shocks added.

Scratch built features:
Aluminum Firewall (copied from resin part), aluminum grill backing plate, roll cage (and padding), parachute pull, seat belt brackets,
Art Carr style push button console, scatter shield (made from orange silk handkerchief), water filler caps, valve stems, water tank, water pump,
all steering rods, return spring, all throttle linkage, spoiler, parachute cable, kill switch, water pump switch, starter button, water hoses, battery cables,
Speed City Driver Figure- (altered the boots on the figure to have combat boots, reshaped lower mask, zippers on smoothed out pant legs).

Modifications to resin model:
Removed Wing Windows.
Radiused the wheel wells to except Speed City Goodyear 16" Slicks.
Cab Divider Plate was glued in place.
Added sq. strip to rear & side windows (to resemble rubber seals).
Added flat sheet plastic to inside of rear tailgate.
Cut all door and panel lines deeper.
Door handles removed.
Tailgate hinges were filed down.
Rear of bed corners - were ground out and plastic strips were added for extra detail.
Bed tool box- Made from cut down fuel tank & plastic 1/2 round pieces.
Stake bed holes were drilled out.
Trim molding holes were drilled on inside of side panels.

Modifications to First Gear Econoline Parts:

Stripped all painted parts, removed seat supports & engine surround.
Added plastic sheet to fill those areas, filled empty holes on interior door panels.
Cut hole in bed floor for engine.
Center section of bed liner sides were cut out.
Removed arm rest's & window cranks on doors and drilled holes in place.
Made front & rear bumpers thinner by sanding bottoms down approximately 2 1/2 scale inches.
Added bumper supports on rear bumper.

Scratch built features:
Scratch built features on original master include- headlight block-outs with center bolt heads, L&R side '65 chrome moldings,
front windshield made smaller, windshield trim, front wheel well lips re-shaped, new drip rails & separate divider plate.

Square tube frame, motor mounts, steering rods, spindles, front axles (made from nails), tie rod, long steering arm,

Headers- heavily modified from Polar Lights F/C headers (straight plastic tubes & flared tips from Monkee Mobile),
valve stems, 2-1/2 scale inches were removed from the bottom of each bumper, wheelie bars (pinned to move up & down).
ANSEN MAG WHEELS-
Converted from 2 sets of Speed City Resin- Torque Thrust 16" Mag Wheels.
The spokes were sanded flat on one set and the spokes were removed on the other set to create a new outer rim.
A Tommy Ivo "SHOWBOAT" dragster supplied the center hub and Pro-Tech bolt heads were added.

Interior was painted using Speed City Instructions....
1. Super Glue tooth pick to outside of interior tub (to be used as a handle).
2. Spray entire Interior Tub with a primer coat.
3. Paint all padded door panels & rear backseat (tuck 'n' roll) padding - a white base coat followed by a pearl white coat.
* Make sure to paint the seats at this time too*
4. After painting all pearl, tape off center of (tuck 'n' roll) in backseat area, the flat padding on door panels, sail panel & seat centers with Bare Metal Foil.
5. Air brush candy red over all the padded "unmasked area's" (let paint cure).
6. Leave all masking on and put more Bare Metal Foil over all the painted door panels and all backseat tuck 'n' roll areas.
7. Now spray dash, floors and seats with a silver base, followed by candy red.
8. Remove all tape and clear coat entire Interior Tub (top & bottom) and seats.

LADDER BARS-
Bottoms were reshaped & side brackets added.
FRONT STRAIGHT TUBE AXLE-
The resin axle piece was replaced with a new axle (using Speed City Instructions on the "Model News" page) to have poseable
and rolling wheels. Coil over shocks were sanded down to remove all coil springs. (real springs will be made from wire).
GRILL-
Grill was hollowed out and backed with black electrical tape after painting, lip around grill removed.
BODY-
Hole in bed cover for roll bar, body was then scribed at door lines.
DRIVER FIGURE-
Visor on helmet removed, right "bent arm" was re-shaped to be made straight, legs were cut to fit interior floor.

Revell '34 Ford Street Rod "SNAP-TITE body.

Modifications to Revell body:
1. Removed 2 1/2" scale inches from Sail Panel (to level off roof)
2. Removed grill and took out 6 scale inches from hood& sides
3. Split hood top and narrowed it to fit grill
4. Filled in bottom of hood sides
5. Filled in rear tail lights
6. Filled in rear section of wheel wells with sheet plastic
7. Added new "recessed wheel wells", using sheet plastic
8. Added small sheet to simulate side window guides
9. Drilled holes in roof for roll bars
10. Cut hole in top of roof (for sun roof)
11. Added sheet on sun roof for window lip
12. Four door hinges installed
13. Added chrome grill to grill opening-
(but had to remove center of grill and left only a lip - needed for the photo-etched grill that didn't fit)
14. Reshaped rear window
15. Re-cut all new hood separation lines

AMT '71 Duster- Chassis, floor pan, engine & running gear.
Scenes Unlimited - Steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps.
Revell '66 GTO- Red Line Tires.

Scratch built features on build:
Scribed the hood open.
Used the engine compartment from the '71 Duster, along with some Evergreen strip for filler.
The Duster floor pan was modified to fit under the Dart body to have the proper wheelbase.
Headlights were removed and replaced with the plastic lenses from the Duster kit.
.010 x .040 Evergreen was used for the body side moldings and fender spears.
K&S .015 plastic sheet for glass.

Paint:
Body-Tamiya fine surface primer- Tamiya X-2 acrylic white- Tamiya X-22 clear.
Engine-Testors acrylic orange over a Tamiya X-18 semi-gloss black.
Interior and undercarriage-Tamiya X-18 semi gloss black.

Modifications to AMT '67 Mustang G/T body:
1. Added .020" to bottom of rocker panels.
2. Filled in side coves with .010" sheet plastic and putty.
3. Filled in holes in sail panels.
4. New radius cut rear wheel wells.
5. Back filled underside of wheel wells with plastic strip and putty to make new flared lips.
6. Added wheel well tubs to inside of body
7. Flattened trunk lid spear
8. Raised front of roof pillars by 1-1/2 scale inch.
9. Added MPC Malco nose to Revell '67 Mustang G/T nose.
10. Re-shaped fender spares to match '67 Mustang.
11. Re-cut new cowl lines.
12. Cut off front clip from body.
13. Added 8" to rear of hood scoop.
14. Made new door pillars with hinges.
15. Molded AMT '67 Mustang front bumper to Malco clip.
16. Added Ford Thunderbolt hollow door handles.
17. Front & Rear window frame recess' ..... To have flush mounted windows.
18. Pivot Rod inside body (for body to flip up).
19. Tail light holes filled in on the rear valance (I'm making 6 new separate tail lights).
20. Cut new parachute hole in rear valance.
21. Front suspension was moved back 3"
22. Inner wheel well tubs.

Scratch built features:
Inner door panels, sail panels and dash were made as a one-piece unit.
(The Malco dash was placed on the firewall and a new sheet of .060" plastic was stacked on top of the Malco dash to create a new raised dash.
(The Malco dash was removed & discarded during assembly).
Inner door panels with 1/2 round panel trim and separate white middle inserts & head liner.
Sides of seats were sanded down to the piping to make smaller and flatter.
Front center roll bar and some bottom tips on roll bars to make it all sit straight.
Corrected headers (made from solder).
Inner wheel well tubs were added to inside of body.
Window frames and rivets.
Front wheel center caps.
Front coil over shocks & springs.
Front clip hinges.
2- Body braces.
Wheelie bar bracket.

TAIL LIGHTS:
The tail light bezels were cut out from 2- AMT '67 Mustang G/T body's, to make into 6 separate tail light bezels.
One set was used to keep the 2 outer tail light bezels and the second body was used to save the middle set of tail light bezels.
Red clear lenses' were cut into 6 separate pieces and all 6 bezels and 6 lenses were thinned and narrowed to scale.

MODIFICATIONS TO MPC MALCO MUSTANG CHASSIS:
Sides of chassis were narrowed (to fit new door panel inserts).
Wheel wells were cut back to fit the wheel well tubs on body.
Inner wheel well sides were filled and sanded smooth.
.040" was added to top of firewall.
Aluminum tubes added to chassis for front clip hinge.

Aftermarket items:
Pro-Tech- Photo-etch "Nuts & Bolt Heads, fuel and ignition wires.
Detail Master- Hose clamp set, combination fittings #1 & #3, compression fittings #1, racing harness hardware & detail wires.

Paint:
BODY:
Custom Sky Blue Pearl mixed with H.O.K Cobalt Candy Blue, topped with Sky Blue metal flake.
DASH:
Custom Sky Blue Pearl mixed with H.O.K. Cobalt Candy Blue (no metal flake).
CHASSIS, FIREWALL & bottom of DASH:
Tamiya TS-54 Light Metallic Blue- (to simulate anodized aluminum) with 2 coats of Testors Wet Look Lacquer.
DOOR PANELS:
Silver metallic base and Tamiya blue clear.
DOOR PANEL INSERTS, HEAD LINER, TRUNK LINERS & SEATS:
Krylon gloss white base, white pearl powder mixed with clear and a coat of H.O.K. Ultra Fine Silver Metal Flake.

Removed all scripts & emblems, removed side vent window frames, radiused rear wheel wells, cut out rear window molding,
removed front window moldings & wipers, cut down front window recess', drilled out steak bed holes, re-scribed all panel lines,
cut lines in front valance, cross bracing on ramp door, glued ramp door to body.
CHASSIS-
Removed all front & rear suspension molded in details with Dremel tool, removed front & mid-section of floor pan,
removed front section of rear bed panel, added plastic to many of the frame rails, front spring perches, re-shaped rear wheel well tubs.
INTERIOR-
Lowed seat and cut down front wheel well/seat mount 8 scale inches (to fit Driver Figure).
Removed gauge faces and radio on dash, removed window cranks in door panels and drilled holes,
glued dash and door panels to be a 1-piece unit, removed visors & dome light, thinned all inner body panels around windows.

Scratch built features:
Made new tufted seat & piping (using .060 plastic strips & .015" round), entire sub frame engine unit, front spindles, front rolling axles,
tail gate braces and pins, wheel hubs on back of Hurst front mags, roll bar, drilled out head lights and replaced with block out covers,
steering wheel down tube, headers from solder and 15" hollow tubes for header extensions, skid tube (for wheelie's) on chassis,
all steering rods. Clear stand (for wheelie position). Added red pinstripe tape along wheel wells, bumper areas, & rocker panels.

Driver Figure-

Helmet visor removed, breathers removed, left "bent arm" was re-shaped to hang outside of window,
legs were cut back to fit floor, arms re-worked to have bare hands, gloves were re-shaped to resemble hands,
fire suit boots removed and pants were re-shaped and boot's were re-shaped.

Donor Parts:
AMT/ERTL- 396 engine & transmission, heads, valve covers, oil filter, oil pan & starter.
Parts box items- Gas pedal, brake and clutch pedals, stick shift boot, 2- Moon gas tanks (glued together).

Modifications to resin model:
Besides making the original master for this resin model (shown on the "In progress" page 4)...
The frame extensions in the resin kit were shortened by 6".
The rear section of the front clip was removed.
A new firewall was made and recessed into the body.
Front & rear bumpers were chrome plated by Chrome-Tech U.S.A
.

Scratch built features on build:
Vertical frame rails from the engines back, rails around the drivers cage and roll bars.
Cock pit aluminum side panels & floor. Tuck 'n' roll padding "hand carved" on seat & side panels.
Interior tin (top & side panels) made from Evergreen Sheet with hand carved Tuck 'n' Roll padding.
Center & Rear "Gear Adaptor Units". Drive shaft shroud, fuel tank, 4- finned valley pans, 4-fuel blocks.
2- timing covers on the Showboat dragster had the motor mounts reversed, steering wheel mount,
brake handle & knob, gauges rack bracket, steering rod & drive shaft tubes. All fuel lines, brake lines, electrical lines.
Parachute cables & parachute bracket, flip hinge- (using Speed City instructions).

Donor Model:
Revell TOMMY IVO'S "SHOWBOAT" DRAGSTER- (with modified chassis)
4- Buick engine blocks (were thinned to match the Ford small block resin heads)
Front wheel hubs (fit into Monogram Ansen sprint 18" mag wheels).
Rear disk brakes, 4- timing covers (1 left & 1 right side motor mount was reversed)
Headers (one had to be lengthened). Fuel pumps, oil filters & chute release handle.

Donor parts:
ANSEN SPRINT MAG WHEELS- Monogram '29 Ford Roadster Pick Up (2- kits were needed).
The "Deep Dish" rear mags from the 2 kits were used for all 4 outer mag wheels and the
"Shallow Dish" front mags from the 2 kits had the spokes cut out and were used for all 4 "Inner Rims".
The centers on the front mag wheels were drilled out to fit the Showboat center wheel hubs.
Speed City "FIRESTONE DRAG 500 SLICKS" were hollowed out to fit the Monogram '29 Ford ANSEN mag wheels.
4- Breather Caps- from Polar Lights F/C sprue dividers between radius rods.
2- MPC Funny Car Parachutes and a few other parts box items.

Speed City Parts added:
6" Hollow Tube Injector Stacks (8 sets).
An additional (4 sets) of 6" Stacks were used for all header e
xtensions.

Modifications to resin model:
All windows were cut out more and silver pin strip tape was added on the glass to replicate the window moldings.
Roof hatch was cut out of body and a new hatch was made from sheet plastic, luggage rack chrome strips were
added to the top of the hatch, lower rear window area was reworked.

Scratch built features:
Besides making the original master for this resin model (shown on the "In progress" page 4)...
Made a rolled lip on the lower front rocker panels using plastic strips.
Interior tin top & side panels made from Evergreen Sheet (using Speed City Instructions), extended the belly pan,
hinge on roof hatch, Showboat headers were cut off after the bend and Speed City 6" Hollow Stacks
were used for the header extensions. Hand painted all white GOODYEAR letters and the blue lines on the
Revell 2-piece slicks, window glass, hand painted rivets on all window moldings, parachute pull cable,
parachute safety ribbon, rear push bar, throttle linkage & fuel lines.

Modifications to resin model:
Besides making the original master for this model (shown on the "In progress" Page)...
Cut out hole for steering arm & grill area, added 4 fastener supports on cowl.
Narrowed the frame 8 scale inches to fit the headers.

Scratch built features on build:
3- Tuck 'n' roll interior roof panels, 7- blue tinted windows, firewall, torsion suspension, front straight axle,
steerable spindles, tie rod, steering arms, axles, valve stems, aluminum interior floor, roll bars, head rest,
modified tranny tunnel, modified seat to better fit figure, hood & body hinges- (using Speed City instructions),
body support hoop, rear torsion long bars, brake handle, brake cylinder, brake line divider block,
brake lines, foot pedal strap, foot pedal linkage, parachute pull, parachute cable,
safety tube for parachute cable, post for parachute cable, parachute lines, kill switch & cable,
seat belts, fuel tank supports, motor mount, water tank & water tank hard lines, headers (from solder),
oil dip stick, fuel linkage, fuel lines, water lines & chromed canteen (used as a over flow tank),
Worked with decal artist to help create the Lil' Screamer decals. M&M Automotive decals on sail panels.

Body- White Pearl powder mixed into Tamyia clear & House of Color clear.
Body Interior- "A
mericana" Acrylic" Flat Black, Ultra Deep Blue, Satin Finish (for blue interior material).
Chassis & Engine- Testors One Coat Lacquer "De Ja Blue".
Numerous metallic paints & Alclad Chrome.

Decals:

Blue pearl was dusted over all blue fade away's on decal sheet, then sponsors and lettering was added.
2- decal sheets were used.

Modifications to resin model:
Besides making the original master for this model (shown on the "In progress" Page)...
The front clip was cut & removed to be a separate piece, New lip on cowl was made to hold front clip up,
head light block outs were drilled out, all side rocker panels were pinched in 6 scale inches.....
(using Speed City instructions), right side door was removed, holes were drilled out in sq. tube frame.

Scratch built features on build:
Worked with decal artist to help create the Mr. Unswitchable decals.
A - Pillar frames & door jams (consisting of a 2 brass strips and 14 pieces of plastic), door pins,
door panel frames on back of door, body mounts on frame, rear air foil, parachute mount,
blue tinted glass, straight tube axle & steering rods (per Speed City instructions on the "MODEL NEWS" page),
coil over shocks, rear shocks, steering box mount, transmission mount, tin work for trunk floor, roll bars,
seat belts cut from ribbon, headers, exhaust tunnel tubes, breather down tubes on valve covers, fuel & water lines,
electrical lines, tire valves, throttle linkage, brake lines, hand brake, starter button, on/off power switch, fuel shut off,
fuel block, gear shift lever, oil dip stick, transmission dip stick, fly wheel, torque converter, transmission linkage & spring,
drive shaft safety tube, starter relay box, spark plug boots, parachute line and release cable.
visor on helmet removed, wheels were made to roll and steer.

Revell '66 Pontiac GTO - engine, heads, valve covers, oil pan, starter, oil filter, intake manifold (modified to be taller)
AMT '67 Pontiac GTO - Pontiac transmission console (altered)
MPC - Funny Car seat (altered -removed padding)
Parts box - breathers, fuel tank, parachute pull handle, steering wheel, steering box, drive shaft (cut to fit),
radius rods, gas pedal, Turbohydromatic Transmission, Revell blower, tachometer

Pro Tech - Pre-wired Magneto, Hood Pins, Photo-etch nuts & bolts & seat belt buckles.

Driver Helmet & steering wheel - Testors Ruby Red Metallic
Interior body panels- Zolatone style splatter paint was done by hand using a tooth brush with
"Americana" Black, neutral gray & white Paints.
For all polished aluminum - Rust-Oleum Bright Coat Metallic Finish
